SKM announces support for trade unions’ protest

A meeting of central trade unions and farmer organisations affiliated with the Sanyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) was held here on Saturday under the chairmanship of Surinder Sharma from Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC).

Amarjit Singh Asal of All India Trade Congress (AITC) stated that the trade unions have announced that the nationwide strike initially scheduled for May 20 has been postponed to July 9.

He said May 20 would now be observed as a protest day against the Central Government’s policies with a gathering at the bus stand here. The organisations appealed to workers, employees, and farmers to participate in large numbers.

The meeting was attended by prominent figures from various farmer organisations, including Sucha Singh Ajnala, Jagtar Singh Karmapura, Dr Satnam Singh Ajnala, Rattan Singh Randhawa and others. The farmer leaders stated that unions would support the trade unions in their protests as like them the industrial workers too are exploited by corporates.

Dr Satnam Singh Ajnala said that corporate policies are detrimental for the common masses and all sections of society need to unite to fight these forces. He said that industrial workers too are demanding better wages and working conditions.
