Doctor behind robotic kidney transplantation in Mumbai, India rewrites history with world’s first in-human bladder transplant
Surgeons from Keck Medicine of USC and UCLA Health successfully performed the world's first in-human bladder transplant on May 4, 2025. The patient, who had a compromised bladder and kidney failure, received a new bladder and kidney. Post-transplant, the patient's kidney function improved immediately, eliminating the need for dialysis, and is showing positive clinical progress.
