Ratnagiri (Maharashtra): A devastating accident on the Mumbai-Goa Highway claimed five lives after a car plunged into the Jagbudi River near Khed in Ratnagiri district. The incident occurred on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday when the vehicle, reportedly en route from Mumbai’s Mira Road to Devrukh, veered off the highway and fell into the river.
The ill-fated car was carrying six passengers who were travelling to attend a funeral in Devrukh. Tragically, five of them died on the spot, while the driver sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment. Authorities are still in the process of identifying the deceased.
Visuals Show Crushed Car Pulled Out Of River
Disturbing visuals from the accident site began circulating online early Sunday, capturing the aftermath of the tragedy. The car, believed to be a tourist vehicle, was retrieved from the river with the help of a crane. The video shows the mangled vehicle being lifted out of the water, its roof completely crushed, a grim indication of the severity of the impact. Police personnel and local residents can be seen assisting in rescue and recovery efforts.
Victims Were On Way To Attend Funeral In Devrukh
According to reports, the car’s occupants were on a journey to attend the funeral of a father-in-law in Devrukh. Rescue operations were launched early in the morning, with officials working with local volunteers to recover the bodies and the damaged vehicle from the riverbed. The condition of the driver is said to be serious. He is currently undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.
