Pune VIDEO: Weekend Rush To Sinhagad, Khadakwasla Ends In Hours-Long Traffic Jam
Sinhagad Fort and the Khadakwasla cluster dams are all-time favourite destinations among Punekars throughout the year—especially ahead of and during the monsoon season. The scenic beauty of these spots draws large crowds, but the narrow stretch connecting them to the city via Sinhagad Road often leads to massive traffic snarls on weekends.
This Sunday was no different. As the monsoon is knocking on the door, bringing with it pleasant weather and overcast skies, Punekars thronged to these popular destinations. However, the influx of visitors resulted in severe traffic congestion from Donje to Khadakwasla, causing hours of delay for both tourists and regular commuters.
The traffic jam began around 6:30 pm, and even by 9 pm, many vehicles were still stuck on the stretch leading toward Khadakwasla. Some commuters feared they wouldn’t reach home until midnight.
The situation was particularly challenging for women, children, and senior citizens, many of whom remained stranded in vehicles for hours with little access to water or washrooms.
Frustrated citizens raised concerns over the lack of traffic management in the area, despite it being a known tourist hotspot, especially during weekends and seasonal changes.
"This happens every year, and still no action is taken. Authorities need to create alternate routes or better traffic flow measures,” said one commuter caught in the jam.
As of late Sunday evening, there was no official statement from the authorities on steps being taken to address the recurring congestion.
With the monsoon season approaching and weekend footfalls expected to rise further, residents are urging the Pune administration to take proactive measures to avoid such gridlocks and ensure the safety and comfort of the public.
