Torrential rains in these states
According to the Meteorological Department, the new weather system due to the cyclone is likely to cause rain in South Indian states. There is a warning of rain and thunderstorms in Bengaluru till May 22. A yellow alert has been issued here. An orange alert has been issued in the state of Kerala. Heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms may continue till May 24. Heavy rain warning has been issued in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal till May 20. Heavy rains are forecast in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana till May 20.
Apart from this, heavy rains are likely at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh from 18 to 20 May in the northeastern states. Heavy to very heavy rain warning has been issued in Assam and Meghalaya from 18 to 24 May. Heavy rains are forecast in Tripura and Nagaland on May 18.
The Meteorological Department says that there is a possibility of heavy rains in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh as well. Pre-monsoon showers will continue in Gujarat till May 23 and this time the monsoon may arrive before June 15. Due to this weather disturbance arising from the Arabian Sea, IMD has advised people living near the coast to remain alert and follow the warnings of the Meteorological Department.
