Polavaram project: PM Modi to hold crucial talks with CMs of four states including Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a high-level meeting May 28 with the Chief Ministers of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh to discuss on the Polavaram project, a source said Monday.
This will be PM Modi’s first dedicated discussion on the issue.
The meeting comes amid growing interstate tensions over concerns of land submergence and displacement caused by the project. Several neighbouring states of Andhra, particularly Odisha, have raised objections, warning that the project could submerge villages and displace tribal communities within their borders.
Notably, Polavaram Project is a multi-purpose irrigation project on the Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh, designed mainly for irrigation, hydropower production, and providing drinking water.
