‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ surpasses the $100 million mark, the highest opener of the franchise

Final Destination Bloodlines, the sixth and latest instalment of the chilling Final Destination franchise, has set records by crossing the $100 million mark in less than a week.

The film, which hit the screens on May 14 in India and May 16 in the United States, amassed a total of $102 million globally, India contributing $2.3 million (Rs 23 crore), according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

Marking a thrilling comeback after fourteen long years, the latest flick has set a $27 million debut, which makes it the franchise’s highest-grossing opener. Since it had an early release in India, the movie opened with Rs 4.5 crore, and grossed Rs 20 crore domestically by Sunday.

Distributed by Warner Bros., the movie is also the entertainment giant’s third hit following April releases A Minecraft Movie and Sinners. Though both are close second and third to Marvel’s Thunderbolts, Final Destination Bloodlines dominates box office, even outperforming Marvel.

With a release date close to Tom Cruise’s action blockbuster, and the finale of the Mission: Impossible franchise—Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, the audience viewed it as a risky release globally.

With favourable reviews across all platforms, including a 93 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes, Final Destination Bloodlines remains a box office favourite, perhaps because of the movie’s effective marketing strategy hinting at the infamous “log truck” scene in Final Destination 2.

This marketing campaign has stirred online obsession and excitement. “Gen Z will never understand why Millennials need to pass this truck as quickly as possible,” remarked a netizen.

Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the movie features talents such as Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Rya Kihlstedt, Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, and many more.

The story revolves around a recurring nightmare experienced by a teenage girl about a tower collapse in the 1960s. She soon realises that there is a mysterious connection between these visions and her grandmother, and finds herself in constant pursuit to save her family members from ghastly deaths.

“I have to mention that the film disgusted and shocked me more than the previous ones, which means they nailed the effects. This film not only satisfies fans of the franchise but also brings something new and revitalises the series,” a moviegoer commented to IMDb.
