Hisar YouTuber Jyoti’s Pakistan visit ‘sponsored’, say police; finances under scanner

Police have addressed concerns over travel vlogger and YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra’s attendance at a Pakistan High Commission event, stating that while socialising is not inherently wrong, the intentions behind such interactions must be carefully considered.

“Pakistan is not a normal country for us. Making multiple visits, socialising with them, remaining in contact during times of conflict, and exchanging favours is definitely an offence,” said Hisar SP Shashank Kumar Sawan.

The SP stated that the police are examining electronic devices and, as a result, could not disclose details about her communications with Pakistani officials. He added that, so far, there is no evidence suggesting she had access to any sensitive information.

Police sources said that her financial transactions and travel history are also under scrutiny, with preliminary findings indicating her travel expenses exceed her known income sources, raising questions about the funding of her trips.

“She was in contact with Pakistani intelligence officials during times of conflict. While she did not have direct access to military or defence information, the nature of her interactions remains suspicious,” they added.

Meanwhile, multiple teams, including cyber and financial experts, are investigating various aspects of the case.

SP Sawan emphasised that this investigation serves as an important lesson, particularly for younger generations, about the risks of sharing information that could have national or international consequences.

Additionally, the police officer revealed that Jyoti’s visit to Pakistan appeared to be a sponsored trip, and the investigation is following leads that suggest the involvement of other individuals.

He also mentioned that Jyoti was in contact with several influencers, both from India and abroad, highlighting that modern warfare is not confined to physical borders.

“Soft power—like using influencers to manipulate public perception—is also a mode,” the SP added.
