Joe Biden has been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, according to the former US president's office. The official statement said that Biden complained of urinary symptoms last week, following which the doctors diagnosed him with Stage 5 prostate cancer.
However, many have questioned the timeline of the diagnosis, wondering how an advanced stage of cancer could have developed in a short span of time. Adding fuel to the fire, now a 2022 video where Biden admits that he has cancer has gone viral. In the video from a press meet on July 20, 2022, in Massachusetts, Biden says, "That's why I, and so damn many other people I grew up with, have cancer."
Back then, the White House dismissed his remarks as a typical gaffe from the president and later claimed that he was talking about earlier treatments for skin cancer and not an active diagnosis.
It should be noted that Biden's son Beau died of brain cancer in 2015.
President Donald Trump was quick to wish a speedy recovery for his formal rival. But several other Republicans, including Trump's son Donald Jr have slammed Biden's team for covering up the diagnosis before the 2024 presidential election.
Physician-scientist Dr Steven Quay pointed out that it takes at least 5 to 7 years for prostate cancer to become metastatic. So according to Dr Quay, Biden must have been diagnosed with cancer throughout his presidency.
Others called out former White House physician Kevin O'Connor for allegedly covering up Biden's diagnosis and declaring him "completely fit for the presidency".
YouTuber Benny Johnson pointed out that prostate cancer can be diagnosed easily from a simple blood test and wondered how the "best doctors on earth" could not detect Biden’s cancer.
Whether the diagnosis was a cover up or not, we cannot be sure. But we wish a speedy recovery for the former president.
