MC Commissioner conducts road, cleanliness inspection
In an ongoing effort to ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance of key roads in the city, Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh on Monday conducted an on-ground inspection and issued directives to officials at various locations. Several MC officials, while handling their routine duties, have also been deputed as nodal officers to oversee cleanliness operations in different parts of the city.
MC Commissioner Aulakh began his inspection from the road leading to the Circuit House, followed by a surprise visit to the municipal corporation’s auto workshop.
He then carried out a thorough inspection of major city roads, including Lohgarh Gate, Lahori Gate, Dhapai Road, Khalsa College stretch, Chheharta Road, and the Mall Road, concluding at Company Bagh and Thandi Khui. During the inspection, the MC Commissioner took a serious note of unauthorised street vendors and stalls outside the Company Bagh and immediately directed the Estate Officer to remove them.
Addressing roadside encroachments, Aulakh personally spoke to individuals occupying public spaces, urging them to vacate and help restore the city’s roads for public use.
Several key officials accompanied the MC Commissioner during the inspection, including Supervising Engineer Sandeep Singh, Executive Engineers Sunil Mahajan and Manjeet Singh, Health Officers Dr Kiran and Dr Yogesh Arora, and Estate Officer Dharminderjit Singh.
MC Commissioner Aulakh said the municipal corporation is fully committed to addressing issues related to city sanitation, garbage lifting, illegal encroachments, clean drinking water, the sewerage system, and road maintenance. He said dedicated teams, comprising officials from relevant departments, have been formed and assigned specific roads to ensure timely and effective execution of all related tasks.
He also emphasised that uninterrupted garbage collection is a top priority, and various measures are being taken to streamline the process. Aulakh mentioned that regular cleanliness drives are being conducted in every municipal ward, and he himself is inspecting the progress on the ground. The MC Commissioner appealed to residents of Amritsar to actively cooperate with the municipal corporation to keep the city clean and orderly.
