10-Year-Old Among 3 Killed In Wall Collapse Due To Heavy Rains In TN's Madurai
Three persons, including a 10-year-old child, was killed in a wall collapse due to torrential rains in Madurai on Tuesday. The incident occurred amid continued rainfall warnings across Tamil Nadu. According to Madurai District Superintendent of Police Arvind, the victims have been identified as Ammappillai (65), Vengatti (55), and a 10-year-old boy named Veeramani.
"A wall collapsed due to heavy rain in Valaiyangulam, Madurai, leading to the death of two women named Ammappillai (age 65) and Vengatti (age 55) and a young boy, Veeramani (age 10). The Perungudi police have registered a case and are investigating the incident," said Madurai district SP, as per ANI.
The event comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) maintains rainfall alerts for several parts of the state. An orange alert—indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall (12–20 cm in 24 hours)—has been issued for the Nilgiris district, with isolated areas expected to bear the brunt of the weather.
Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for the districts of Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, and Tiruvannamalai, where heavy rain (7–11 cm) is likely to occur at isolated locations.
