'Aankhi Ek ED Bhushan Mantri...': Activist Anjali Damania Reacts To NCP Leader Chhagan Bhujbal Taking Oath As Maharashtra's Cabinet Minister
Mumbai: In a controversial decision, senior leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Chhagan Bhujbal was inaugurated as a Cabinet Minister in the Maharashtra government on Tuesday. Bhujbal's induction follows discussions regarding his absence from the cabinet since the coalition government was formed. The oath-taking ceremony took place at Vidhan Sabha with presence of Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, alongside other high-ranking ministers.
Bhujbal's appointment to the cabinet is regarded as a tactical decision to enhance OBC representation and reestablish equilibrium within the ruling coalition. The NCP chief, known for holding various important roles and regarded as a notable OBC leader, stated his willingness to take on any duty given by CM Fadnavis. Deputy CM Shinde commended Bhujbal's vast administrative expertise, claiming that his involvement would be advantageous for the government.
Nevertheless, social activist Anjali Damania has ignited controversy by asking CM Fadnavis on her official X account about Bhujbal's inclusion in the cabinet. Damania charged the government with swapping "one corrupt minister for another" and voiced his disdain regarding Bhujbal's appointment, referencing his past imprisonment and depiction in the media. "Congratulations to the Maharashtra coalition government." "The state has acquired yet another ED Bhushan minister," Damania tweeted, igniting discussion about the government's motives.
Bhujbal's return to the cabinet comes after NCP leader Dhananjay Munde resigned due to the controversy involving the arrest of Munde's associate. As civic elections approach, Bhujbal's joining is anticipated to enhance the electoral chances of the NCP. Maharashtra Minister and State BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule has praised his appointment, noting that Bhujbal's addition would bolster the government and aid in achieving the goal of 'Viksit Maharashtra'.
