Neha Bhasin On Nancy Tyagi's Cannes Outfit Controversy: 'Didn't Mean To Demean, But Can't Call Someone Else's Work Your Own'

Singer Neha Bhasin recently stirred controversy by accusing fashion influencer Nancy Tyagi of falsely claiming that her beige corset dress at the Cannes 2025 Film Festival was self-stitched when, in fact, it was purchased from The Source Bombay and had been previously worn by Neha during a concert in December 2024. The singer has now issued a statement clarifying that she did not intend to 'demean' Nancy but urged her to give credit where it is due.

On Tuesday, Neha took to her Instagram story and wrote, "The intention was not to demean another woman but to state a simple fact. We have all worked hard to be where we are. We are all self-made. But to call someone else's work your own will never be ok. 'The Source Bombay' has also worked its way up a small garage they worked out of 15 years ago."

The Kuch Khaas singer stated that she has seen The Source Bombay's owner Surbhi, work tirelessly to sustain her business to now thrive.

Neha added, "Everyone has a story of where they come from, and just because no one's applauding them does not mean you rob them of their credit. I urge you to not buy a story but applaud people's talents and be ok to say what's not ok."

Speaking to The Free Press Journal, Surbhi Gupta, founder and stylist at The Source Bombay, confirmed that Nancy had purchased the dress from their store.

"Nancy claims she stitched it herself and all of that, but she bought it from us," Gupta said. "She got it from our Mumbai store. We don’t have any problem. She purchased it, so she's free to do what she wants with it. But it is our design. We didn't do a barter or a collaboration. She did not stitch it herself, which she claims she did. The cape she wore doesn't belong to me... that's something she seems to have made herself, I guess," Gupta stated.
