TMC Nominates Abhishek Banerjee For Centre's Diplomacy Outreach On Operation Sindoor Amid Yusuf Pathan Row

Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Tuesday nominated its general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, for the parliamentary delegations formed by the Centre aimed at countering Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and to convey India's anti-terror message to the world. The development came a day after TMC's Burhanpur MP Yusuf Pathan backed out of the all-party delegation.

The Mamata Banerjee-led party said that Abhishek Banerjee's inclusion will being "conviction and clarity" to the table.

TMC's X Post:

"We’re delighted to share that our Chairperson Smt. @MamataOfficial has nominated Nat'l GS Shri @abhishekaitc to represent Trinamool Congress in the all-party delegation for India’s global outreach against terrorism," the TMC said in its official X post.

"At a time when the world must unite to confront the growing threat of terrorism, Shri Abhishek Banerjee’s inclusion brings both conviction and clarity to the table. His presence will not only reflect Bengal’s firm stand against terror but also strengthen India’s collective voice on the global stage," the post further read.

On Monday, May 19, the West Bengal Chief Minister asserted that the TMC is not boycotting the Centre's multi-party diplomatic mission aimed at countering Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and would send its representatives once a formal request is received from the Centre. she also emphasised that the Centre should not decide the party's nominee to the delegations.

Her statement came after a controversy broke out that TMC MP Yusuf Pathan was forced to opt out of the multi-party diplomatic delegation. The BJP has attacked West Bengal's ruling party for the development.

The multi-party delegation, consisting of seven groups led by one MP each, has been initiated to counter global misinformation and highlight India's zero-tolerance policy on terrorism.

The list includes Members of Parliament from multi-party groups, which have been divided into seven groups consisting of 8-9 members. A leader has been assigned for each group who will lead the delegation at the global level.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, while posting the list on Saturday, also highlighted how the Members of Parliament have shown a united stance of "One mission. One message. One Bharat." "One mission. One message. One Bharat. Seven All-Party Delegations will soon engage key nations under Operation Sindoor, reflecting our collective resolve against terrorism. Here's the list of MPs & delegations representing this united front," Rijiju said in a post on X.

India is ending the multi-party delegations, after Operation Sindoor was launched to target nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The military operation was launched

to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 innocent civilians were killed.

After India’s precision trikes, Pakistan tried to target civilian and military installations by using drones and missiles. However, the Indian air defence system thwarted the attack. In response, India hit several Pakistan Air Force bases. On May 10, both countries agreed to a ceasefire.
