'Jaan Se Maar Dunga': Rahul Vaidya Says He Received Death Threats From Virat Kohli's Fans After Calling RCB Cricketer 'Joker'
Singer and Bigg Boss 14 fame Rahul Vaidya, who was all over the news of late after he called former Team India skipper Virat Kohli and his fans "jokers", has now revealed how he was abused and threatened for his sharing his opinion.
In an interview with Telly Talk India, Rahul opined that there needs to be scrutiny on those threatening and abusing celebs online by sitting behind a screen. "That chapter is closed now. It was a joke but his fans turned it into a very ugly controversy. The joke was sensationalised and blown out of proportion, and it became something else altogether. But bygones be bygones, it is all over now," he said.
Rahul went on to say, "What upset me the most in this row was how I was targetted and my family was targetted and abused. I received death threats. 'Jaan se maar dunga, kabhi dikhna mat', Kohli's fans said. And people can get away with writing such things because there is no accountability on the internet."
The singer opined that strict action should also be taken against such trolls and haters who send threatening messages on social media without any fear.
What is the Rahul Vaidya-Virat Kohli row?
It all began after Rahul took to his Instagram handle on May 5 and posted a note which read, "Virat Kohli’s fans are even bigger jokers than Virat! (sic)”. He later also claimed that the Royal Challenger Bengaluru player's fans were abusing his family members online.
"And now u r abusing me that's fine but u r abusing my wife my sister.. who have nothing to do with this! So I was right that's why you all Virat kohli fans are jokers! 2 kaudi ke jokers (sic)," he wrote.
He also claimed that Kohli had blocked him on social media, and demanded to know the reason behind the uncalled for move.
As the controversy gained momentum, Kohli unblocked Rahul on Instagram, but without an official statement. However, as soon as he was unblocked, Rahul took a U-turn and called the cricketer "the best batsman".
