Bringing governance to the grassroots
Education Minister Rohit Thakur will preside over the ‘Sarkar Gaon ke Dwar’ programme scheduled for May 30 in the Nanahar gram panchayat, under the Chopal Legislative Assembly Constituency, Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap announced.
Chairing a review meeting on the preparations, the DC instructed the Chopal Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) to finalise the event venue within two days. He also directed all departmental heads to be present at the programme, warning of strict action against officials failing to comply.
Kashyap emphasised that all departments must launch awareness campaigns highlighting ongoing government schemes in the lead-up to the event. They are also expected to present status reports on their current implementations during the programme.
In addition to the main proceedings, the event will feature civil defence and disaster awareness camps, departmental exhibitions, stalls by self-help groups and a medical camp. “For the first time, meritorious students who have excelled in school examinations in the region will be felicitated during the programme to motivate them and inspire others,” the DC added.
A medical board will also be established at Civil Hospital, Chopal, by the Health Department to issue disability identity cards locally, saving beneficiaries the trouble of traveling to Shimla.
Highlighting another first, Kashyap said public grievances received during the programme will be uploaded to the Mukhya Mantri Seva Sankalp @1100 platform to enable effective tracking and timely resolution.
The DC further instructed the Transport Department to conduct road safety awareness campaigns at schools, educational institutions and villages in Nanahar and Jhina panchayats in the run-up to the event.

While chairing a review meeting regarding the preparations for the programme, the DC said that the primary objective of the programme is to bring state government policies and welfare schemes directly to the people, ensuring that citizens’ grievances and developmental needs are addressed at their doorstep.
He said that people from Chansu, Kamru, Sangla, Themgarang, Batseri, Rakchham and Chitkul gram panchayats would participate in the event. “All district-level departmental officers have been directed to attend the camp and provide information on relevant schemes to ensure that the public is well-informed about the welfare initiatives of the present state government,” he said.
Dr Sharma also directed the Health Department to organise a free medical camp during the programme. He instructed all departments to set up exhibitions showcasing their respective welfare schemes so that residents of the tribal district could fully benefit from the government’s people-centric initiatives and experience a responsive administration close to home.
