Class XII English paper to be re-evaluated

The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has decided that fresh evaluation would be conducted for the class XII English paper, using the correct answer keys. It was further stated that the aggrieved students would get compensated with the new higher scores as nobody’s marks would be deducted in the revaluation.

Discontent was observed among the students of class XII with regard to the marks allotted to the paper of English ever since the result was declared on May 17. The matter was brought to the notice of the board authorities by the HP Government Teacher’s Union (HPGTU) and Private Schools Association in addition to Rohit Thakur, Education Minister, who intervened asking the board authorities to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.

The English paper for session, initially scheduled for March 8, was rescheduled for March 29 following a question paper mix-up at Chowari in Chamba. The revised date was announced by the HPBOSE.

Recognising the seriousness of the issue, the board officials initiated an inquiry to determine the cause of the anomaly. The investigation found human error in the evaluation process. It was found that by mistake the answer keys from the previously cancelled paper were mistakenly used during the result compilation. It was this 16-mark MCQ section that contributed to the discrepancies in the marks obtained in English.

Major Vishal Sharma, Secretary Board, taking the responsibility for the mistake, stated that appropriate action would be taken against the erring officers and foolproof measures would be initiated to prevent such errors in the future.
