Himachal Education Minister felicitates winners at Portmore School
Education Minister Rohit Thakur today gave awards to the winners of the 68th National School Games at Government Adarsh (Girls) Senior Secondary School, Portmore, Shimla. The prize distribution ceremony was organised by ‘Himachal School Sports Association’.
In his address, the minister said sports would be promoted along with education in every corner of the state for the all-round development of the students. “Sports is an integral part of our life. Efforts are being made to promote sports along with studies,” said Thakur while congratulating the students who brought glory to the state in sports.
He said a total of 718 players participated in the 68th National School Games in which 199 players from Himachal Pradesh participated in U19 boys category, 167 players in U19 girls category, 173 players in U17 boys category and 179 players in U17 girls category. This year our talented players have won a total of 33 medals — three gold, six silver and 24 bronze medals in which winning 10 medals each in boxing and kurash is a very commendable effort.
Players of all games and their trainers have left no stone unturned in bringing glory to Himachal in the National Games for which everyone deserves congratulations. Rohit Thakur said in the National School Games, the state has won 20 medals in 2022, 18 in 2023 and this time the maximum of 33 medals, which is a matter of joy for all of us.
The minister said the government had provided Rs 1 crore to the School Sports Association as sports grant. “The government has started new sports facilities in sports hostels. The diet money for sportspersons in various age groups has been substantially increased,” he said, adding that other demands related to sports would also be considered sympathetically.
The state won 33 medals in the 68th National School Games, including three gold medals, six silver medals and 24 bronze medals. The state won two gold medals in kurash and one in wrestling.
The medal winners were given caps, certificates, mementos and cash prizes with Rs 5,000 given to gold medal winners, Rs 3,000 for silver medal winners and Rs 2,000 for bronze medal winners. During the programme, the minister also honoured the students who recently achieved good results in the Class 12th.
