Gangster hurt in brief encounter, arrested
Following a brief encounter on Tuesday morning, the Jalandhar Rural Police arrested gangster Paramjit Pamma near Kalra village in Adampur.
The gangster, who hails from Binjo village of Hoshiarpur, received a bullet injury in his left leg and is taking treatment in the Civil Hospital in Jalandhar. SSP Harwinder Singh Virk said the crime branch of Jalandhar had set up a barricade when a youth driving Bolero came in from the Mehtiana side.
“The police team at the barricade had signalled him to stop but he tried to overrun cops. The Bolero hit into the barricade and further collided with a milestone losing balance. The driver of the car came out and fired shots at the police. The police warned him and asked him to surrender but he fired yet again. His bullets missed the targets. The police fired in retaliation and a bullet hit his lower left leg.
The police recovered two .32 bore pistols, four cartridges and 15 g heroin from the accused. The police are investigating the purpose with which he was roaming in the area. Pamma had 19 cases against him, including those of looting, snatching, and violations under the Arms Act and NDPS Act.
