Rain Threatens MI vs DC Clash - Who Will Qualify For Playoffs If It's Abandoned?
The playoff race in IPL 2025 is heating up as three teams - Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans - have already secured their spots. The final playoff berth will be decided between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, who are set to face off on May 21 at Wankhede Stadium. However, rain threatens to disrupt this all-important clash.
Rain Threatens MI vs DC Match
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, forecasting continuous rainfall for the next four days. With the match scheduled for May 21, there's a real possibility of a washout - which could complicate the playoff equation.
What if the match is cancelled?
Currently:
Mumbai Indians (MI): 12 matches, 7 wins, 5 losses - 14 points
Delhi Capitals (DC): 12 matches, 6 wins, 5 losses, 1 no result - 13 points
If the match is abandoned due to rain, both teams will be awarded 1 point:
MI moves to 15 points
DC moves to 14 points
This will push the playoff battle to the final league games, where both teams face Punjab Kings:
If Delhi beats Punjab and Mumbai loses, DC qualifies with 16 points.
If both teams win, MI finishes with 17 points and qualifies, while DC ends with 16 and is knocked out.
If Delhi loses, MI qualifies regardless of their final result.

What if the match happens?
If the rain stays away and Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Delhi Capitals (DC) match is completed:
If MI wins, they will qualify immediately with 16 points, and their result against Punjab won't matter.
If DC wins, they'll need to beat Punjab in their final game to reach 16 points and qualify. A loss to Punjab would mean they'd rely on Mumbai also losing to Punjab.
