'In Our Biggest Markets Like US & India': Google's AI Overviews Fuel Search Surge; Now Live In 200+ Countries

Google’s artificial intelligence-powered summaries are reshaping how people search online — and users seem to be loving it. The tech giant revealed at its annual I/O conference that AI Overviews, a feature designed to offer quick, concise answers alongside traditional search results, is seeing major traction, especially in markets like the United States and India.

With a global rollout now complete, AI Overviews are accessible in more than 200 countries and territories, supporting over 40 languages including Arabic, Chinese, Malay, and Urdu.

AI That Feels Fast — and Familiar

Built to streamline the search experience, AI Overviews appear only when Google's systems judge them to be helpful. These summaries include links to relevant websites, ensuring users can dive deeper if they choose. And all of it is delivered at top speed.

Google claims its AI Overviews currently provide "the fastest AI responses in the industry", reinforcing the tech’s seamless integration into the familiar pace and style of Search.

Boosting Search Habits in Key Markets

What’s catching attention is not just the global reach, but the behavioural shift in users. In key regions like the US and India, AI Overviews are already changing how people interact with Google Search.

“In our biggest markets like the US and India, AI Overviews is driving over 10% increase in usage of Google for the types of queries that show AI Overviews,” the company stated.

This isn’t a one-time bump, either. According to Google, the more people use AI Overviews, the more they return to Search for similarly structured questions, indicating sustained engagement and user satisfaction.

Gemini Muscle Arrives in AI Overviews

To further strengthen the offering, Google is integrating its most advanced AI model into the mix. Starting this week in the U.S., a custom version of Gemini 2.5 will power AI Overviews. That means users can expect smarter responses capable of handling even more complex questions.

“We look forward to helping people search more effortlessly, in more places around the world,” the company said in its closing note.

As Google continues to evolve how we search, AI Overviews may just mark the next major shift in how billions access information.
