Cong observes ‘Balidan Divas’, pays tribute to Rajiv Gandhi

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, May 21: Congress party today paid floral tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 34th death anniversary.
Floral tribute were paid to former Prime Minister Bharat Ratan Rajiv Gandhi on his ‘Balidan Divas’ in a function held at PCC office, Jammu.

Former Dy Chief Minister and working president Tara Chand presided over the function while several former Ministers, Ex Legislators and senior leaders attended the function.
Addressing the gathering, Tara Chand described Rajiv Gandhi as the young, dynamic visionary leader whose life was cut short by terrorists and he sacrificed his life for the nation like his mother Indira Gandhi.
He said Rajiv Gandhi brought about several revolutionary changes in the country and was the architect of modern Panchayat Raj System in the country transformation of democracy upto grass root levels. He said 73rd and 74th Amendments ensured 33% reservation to women in the entire country in all tiers of PRIs, biggest step of empowerment of women in India. He said Rajiv Gandhi gave reservation to SCs and STs in the country in PRIs by ensuring them share as per their popularity in each Panchayat besides in all tiers.
Senior leaders Yogesh Sawhney, Gurubachna Kumari, Ved Mahajan, Rajnish Sharma, Mohinder Bhardwaj, Bhushan Dogra, TS Tony, Naresh Sharma, Narinder Sharma, Zahida Khan, Thomas Khokhar, Subash Bhagat, Madan Chalotra, Dwarka Choudhary, Vijay Tagotra, Sanjeev Panda, Vijay Shastri, Rajveer Singh, Sahil Sharma, Rajeev Saraf, Kapil Chib, Ricky Dalotra and others also paid tribute to Gandhi.
In a function held at Banihal Congress workers led by senior Congress leader and Member Congress Working Committee Vikar Rasool Wani paid solemn tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary.
Many party leaders present on the occasion included senior vice presidents GN Monga and Mohammad Answer Bhat, vice presidents GS Khan and Fayaz Ahmad Dar, general secretaries Master Maqbool, BA Khan, Irfan Naqbandhi, Imtiyaz Khandey, Shameema Khan, along with secretaries Irshad Ganje, Dr G.N. Lone, and Firdos Ahmad Wani.
Wani offered floral tribute to the former Prime Minister and eloquently highlighted Gandhi’s transformative contributions to modern India.
In yet another function held at Jammu North floral tribute were paid to Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary. The event was held under the leadership of Hari Singh Chib, vice president of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) and Incharge District president Jammu Rural.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of Congress workers and local residents who gathered to remember the immense contributions of Rajiv Gandhi to the nation.
Speaking on the occasion, Chib said that Rajiv Gandhi was not just a statesman but a true visionary who laid the foundation of a technologically advanced India.
Prominent persons present on the occasion included Som Nath Sharma Block president, Pata Paloura, Rajni Bala (former Corporator), Bal Krishan Sharma, Om Parkash, Madan Singh Chib, Kamal Singh, Romesh Kumar and others.
JKPCC also organized a function at Srinagar party office to pay tribute to Late Rajiv Gandhi. MLA Bandipora Nizam- U- Din Bhat presided over the function. Congress leaders and workers paid floral tribute to Rajiv Gandhi and observed two-minute silence in honour of the former Prime Minister, who sacrificed his life for the Nation.
The leaders paid floral tribute to former Prime Minister while highlighting his selfless services and great achievements describing these a milestone in the inclusive development of India in all respects, be it the implementation of Panchayat Raj system, voting rights to 18 years of age, IT revolution or strengthening of defense system of India.
Those who paid tribute to former PM included former Legislator Bashir Ahmad Magrey, Abdul Gani Khan, Nissar Ahmad Mundoo, Mahila Congress president Shameema Raina, Abid Imityaz Bhat, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, Mir Ruvais, Dr Audil Farooq and others.
Meanwhile, Youth Congress organized a blood donation camp at Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu, to commemorate the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
The camp was organised by Anirudh Sawhney, State general secretary JKPYC, along with Happy Randhawa, general secretary JKPYC, and secretaries Akhil Bogia and Dr. Suhaib Manhas, Anmol Kohli. The event witnessed the participation of senior Congress leaders including Ex-Deputy CM Tara Chand, former Minister Yogesh Sawhney, Ex-MLC Ved Mahajan, and T S Tony, among others.
Babal Gupta, senior Copngress leader also organized a function in this connection at party office Vijaypur in Samba and paid tribute to Late Rajiv Gandhi.
Similar functions were held in other parts of the JKUT today.
