Inter-Zonal Sports Competitions begin

JAMMU, May 21: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), district Jammu, inaugurated Inter-Zonal District Level Competitions for Under-14 boys and girls in various disciplines including Basketball, Kho-Kho, Volleyball and Kabaddi at MA Stadium and Green Field, Gandhi Nagar, here today.
Simultaneously, Inter-School District Level Competitions for Under-14 and Under-17 boys and girls in Handball and Hockey commenced at KK Hakku Stadium and Dogra Ground, Shastri Nagar.
The sports activities are being organized under the patronage of Director General Youth Services and Sports, J&K-UT, Rajinder Singh Tara, with overall supervision by Deputy Director Central, Jetinder Mishra and Joint Director YSS, Ved Parkash. The arrangements were further supported by Accounts Officer Sunil Kumar Sharma and DYSSO Jammu, Sukhdev Raj Sharma.
ZPEOs Joginder Sharma (Miran Sahib), Ram Murti (Gandhi Nagar), Jatinder Kour (Satwari) and Harvinder Kour (Jammu), along with Harvinder Singh Sodi, coordinated the events for smooth conduct.
Over 600 students from various Government and private schools of district Jammu participated. The matches were officiated by experts Bandana Sharma, Jasdev Singh, Ravinder Singh, Hardev Singh, Karanjit Singh, Mandeep Singh, Anil Dogra, Gourav Sharma, Vaneet Pangotra, Mosmi Verma, Rajesh Bandral and other technical officials.
In today’s finals, Zone Miran Sahib defeated Zone Gandhi Nagar by 39-14 in Kabaddi U-14 boys, while Zone Gandhi Nagar avenged the loss by beating Zone Miran Sahib by 29-18 in the girls’ final. In Kho-Kho, Zone Miran Sahib outplayed Zone Satwari by 6-3 in the girls’ category and also defeated Zone Gandhi Nagar by 5-3 in the boys’ final.
