2 Israeli Embassy Officials Shot Dead In Washington DC
Two officials from the Israeli Embassy in Washington DC were shot dead as they exited an event Wednesday night (local time) at the Capital Jewish Museum, said Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem.
The shooting appears to have been a targeted attack, reported CBS, quoting two law enforcement sources.
Other employees of the Israeli Embassy who were at the event were also injured in the incident, as per the report. The shooting took place on F Street, near the FBI's field office.
“Two Israeli Embassy staff were senselessly killed tonight near the Jewish Museum in Washington DC,” Noem said in a post on X. “We are actively investigating and working to get more information to share.”
Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Dannon, also confirmed the incident saying the shooting occurred "outside the event that took place at the Jewish Museum."
DC Police said they are investigating a shooting across the street from the FBI's Washington office, which is located near the museum. The Israeli embassy is working with law enforcement.
The Israeli ambassador was not involved in the incident and was not at the location when the shooting occurred, an embassy spokesperson told CNN.
A suspect believed to be the shooter is in custody and yelled "free Palestine" prior to the shooting, as per the CBS report.
Federal Bureau of Investigation Director, Kash Patel said in a post on X that he and his team has been briefed about the incident. "While we’re working with MPD to respond and learn more, in the immediate, please pray for the victims and their families. We will keep the public updated as we are able," he said.
