IPL 2025: Delhi Capitals Create 'Unwanted History'

Delhi Capitals are officially out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 playoff race after suffering a crushing 59-run defeat to the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium. This loss not only ended Delhi's campaign but also marked an unwanted milestone in IPL history.

First team to miss playoffs after 4 straight wins

Delhi Capitals have now become the first team in IPL history to miss the playoffs despite winning their first four matches. DC began their season with impressive wins over CSK, RCB (twice), and Lucknow Super Giants, emerging as early contenders for the top four. However, their momentum faltered in the second half.

Following defeats to Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans, two crucial matches - against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings - were abandoned, with the latter called off amid India-Pakistan tensions. These missed opportunities ultimately derailed Delhi's playoff hopes.

Mumbai seal second win over Delhi

This was the second clash between the two sides this season, and once again, Mumbai Indians emerged as the winners. Batting first, MI posted 180/5 in 20 overs, led by a brilliant 73 from Suryakumar Yadav.

In reply, Delhi Capitals crumbled under pressure, getting bowled out for 121 in 18.2 overs. Sameer Rizvi top-scored with 39 runs, but the rest of the batting unit failed to deliver. Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Santner starred with the ball for MI, claiming three wickets each.

What's next?

With this win, Mumbai Indians (MI) have sealed a place in the playoffs and will now face Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 26 in their final league game. Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, are left to reflect on a promising start that ended in bitter disappointment.
