S Jaishankar Rejects Mediation Claims, Says India-Pakistan Had Direct Talks On Ceasefire

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has firmly rejected former U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that he mediated between India and Pakistan during the 2019 ceasefire talks. In a recent interview in the Netherlands, Jaishankar clarified that any communication regarding the ceasefire was strictly bilateral, initiated after India told the U.S. that Pakistan must first establish contact. Following this, Pakistan reached out directly, confirming there was no third-party involvement. He also strongly criticized Pakistan’s double standards and its ongoing sponsorship of terrorism, stating that while India believes this is not a time for war, it certainly isn’t a time for terrorism either. Jaishankar hinted at a connection between Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir’s extremist views and the rise in cross-border terrorist incidents.Experts further discussed how India’s military response—air force, army, and navy acting in coordination—has successfully dismantled terrorist camps, contrasting with the global narrative often shaped to favor Pakistan. The conversation also highlighted the West’s hypocrisy, particularly in treating leaders linked to terrorism with legitimacy while ignoring the realities on the ground. The need for India’s media and diplomacy to counter such propaganda was strongly emphasized.
