PM Modi made India look ‘weak’ at global stage after ceasefire: Congress

The Congress on Thursday accused the Narendra Modi-led government of making India appear “weak” on the global stage following the announcement of a ceasefire with Pakistan.

Congress MP Praniti Shinde cited former US President Donald Trump’s statement in Saudi Arabia, where he claimed that it was through trade threats that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan was brokered.

“The ceasefire was made by a third party—America,” Shinde said.

She raised questions about the US President’s disclosure of the ceasefire on social media. “Did the government know about it beforehand? We were in an advantageous position. By accepting the ceasefire, the government made the whole nation look weak at the global stage,” Shinde said.

When asked by The Tribune about senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid’s claim that “there was no third-party mediation” in the recent ceasefire, she responded, “India was caught unaware of the (Trump) tweet.”

Shinde also said there is “more need” to inform the Indian public about Operation Sindoor than the international community. Her comments come at a time when India has launched a global outreach campaign against terrorism.

Targeting PM Modi, she accused him of indulging in “self-praise and PR" while failing to provide answers about the four terrorists responsible for the massacre of 26 people in Pahalgam on April 22.

“Why have these terrorists not been arrested? What is the government doing to catch them?” she asked.

Citing External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s recent remarks about Operation Sindoor, Shinde added, “The EAM informed Pakistan about the attack. Why was this done? Was our security compromised? How much damage did our forces, especially the Air Force, suffer due to this decision?”

She demanded that the government issue a formal clarification, alleging that sensitive operational information had been shared with Pakistan, potentially compromising national security.

Shinde also accused the government of evading discussions on the Pahalgam terror attack, claiming it was trying to “hide something.”

“Kharge ji and Rahul ji have been demanding a special Parliament session. Why is the government running away from it? The country needs to know,” she said.
