Vijay’s TVK Weighs Election Symbol Options Ahead Of 2026 Tamil Nadu Polls: Here Are The Probable

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the political outfit founded by Tamil superstar Vijay, is currently in the process of shortlisting its election symbol from the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) list of 190 free symbols. Among the front-runners, sources to IANS say, are the cricket bat, whistle, and microphone—each bearing symbolic significance tied to Vijay’s public image and cinematic journey.

As per ECI rules, registered but unrecognised parties like TVK can apply for a common election symbol six months before the tenure of the current state assembly ends. With the Tamil Nadu Assembly term concluding on May 6, 2026, the party will be eligible to submit its request beginning November 5, 2025.

Criteria For Selection

Party leaders have established four key benchmarks for selecting the symbol: it must be publicly relatable, have thematic ties to Vijay’s on-screen persona and clearly distinguishable from other party symbols, as per a report on The New Indian Express. The symbol should also remain easily identifiable even after the official campaign silence begins—36 hours before voting.

"A party's election symbol is more than just a visual identifier -- it is a medium through which the party's message reaches the people. It must be relatable, memorable, and simple to communicate," a senior TVK leader said.

Leading Contenders

The cricket bat is gaining traction due to its strong appeal among younger voters and its integration into everyday Indian culture. The microphone is also under serious consideration, seen as a metaphor for Vijay’s political voice reaching new audiences as he transitions from cinema to public service.

The whistle, long associated with Vijay’s fan base and notably featured in promotions related to his film Bigil, was initially a strong candidate. However, internal sources reveal it did not garner full consensus during party deliberations.

TVK also has the option of proposing a custom-designed symbol to the Election Commission.
