WATCH: Suryakumar Yadav’s ‘sweet’ gesture for wife after receiving Player of the Match award against Delhi Capitals

New Delhi: Suryakumar Yadav from the Mumbai Indians gave his Player of the Match award to his wife following a strong 59-run win over the Delhi Capitals. His impressive 73* off 43 balls propelled Mumbai to a challenging 180/5, securing their place in the IPL playoffs at Delhi’s expense. Yadav’s performance was crucial in overcoming the Wankhede Stadium’s unexpectedly low-scoring conditions.

Mumbai’s dominant performance, spearheaded by Mitchell Santner and Jasprit Bumrah, easily overwhelmed Delhi’s playoff aspirations. Delhi’s efforts proved insufficient to mount a serious challenge.

Following Mumbai’s celebratory victory parade, heavy rain began at the Wankhede Stadium. Suryakumar Yadav got his Player of the Match award while carrying an umbrella at the ceremony. Something he told us made the award much more special for him.

“It’s been 13 games now. My wife told me a sweet story today. She said you’ve got all the awards except MoM. This award is special today. From the team’s point of view, the knock was important, and also, this trophy is for her. She waits for such moments and we celebrate it obviously, looking forward to it,” Suryakumar said in the post-match presentation.

Mumbai’s innings faltered early, reaching 58/3 after losing key top-order batsmen. However, Suryakumar Yadav’s innings, aided by some fortune, proved pivotal. He remained unbeaten, strategically capitalizing on opportunities in the final over to significantly alter Mumbai’s fortunes.

In the second to last over, Naman Dhir’s aggressive batting significantly boosted the team’s run rate. After Mukesh Kumar bowled impressively, Virat scored 27 runs off two fours and two sixes against him.

Suryakumar Yadav’s aggressive batting, including four sixes and fours, proved decisive in Mumbai’s victory. Naman Ojha’s contribution in the 19th over, and the positive energy he conveyed to Yadav, were pivotal moments in the match’s outcome.

“It was important for a single batter to bat till the end. We knew there was one over of 15-20 runs somewhere, so we had to wait till the end. The way Naman came in and shared that energy with me was also a turning point,” he concluded.
