Telecom sector to see positive hiring trends for freshers

Picture this: The telecom industry in India is the second largest in the world, with a subscriber base of 1.17 billion (wireless plus wireline subscribers). The telecom companies in India are expected to witness fast growth in the next few years, which will increase the demand for specialised people and also for freshers.

As per the learning and employability solution firm TeamLease, the synergy between IoT and 5G is not only changing how we celebrate but also how we work.

Network engineers are instrumental in designing the architecture for 5G networks, ensuring a consistent and reliable connection. Data analysts are in high demand to decipher the massive influx of data generated by IoT devices.

It is estimated that over the next five years, an increase in mobile phone penetration and a decrease in data costs will add 500 million new Internet users to India, creating opportunities for new businesses, from online insurance coverage to online food delivery.

As per TeamLease's findings, India will require a 22 million skilled workforce by 2025 to operate hardware, software-defined networks, computer data, and manufacturing in 5G-centric technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics.

From network engineers to cybersecurity experts, telecom jobs in India are buzzing with opportunities in the telecommunications staffing industry. The increase in daily subscribers, along with the creation of new jobs and business opportunities, encourages investment in this sector.

Recently, TeamLease brought out the TeamLease EdTech Career Outlook Report (HY1, January–June 2025), and interestingly, telecom remains a significant employment generator as the sector rapidly transitions to 5G networks, cloud-native architecture, and enhanced cyber resilience.

The report says that 45 per cent of fresher hiring intent is projected for the sector in India in the first half of 2025. The report says that while the sector witnessed a marginal decline from the 48 per cent freshers hiring intent reported in the previous half-year (July–December 2024), the momentum remains robust, driven by demand for specialised roles.

As per the report, Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Coimbatore have recorded the highest demand for RF Engineers. On the other hand, network security analysts have the highest demand in Bangalore, Mumbai and Nagpur.

Field Technical Engineers roles in the telecom sector are required in Hyderabad, Kolkata and Indore, whereas the city of Pune is expected to hire Junior DevOps Engineers, followed by Gurugram and Kochi. Similarly, Chennai, Nagpur and Chandigarh at have recorded the highest demand for Cloud Network Engineers.

The report observes that freshers can find varied opportunities in the sector but with domain-specific skills, particularly in network security, cloud computing, and DevOps. Certifications in RF Wireless Engineering, Cybersecurity, and Cloud Network Architecture have also become increasingly relevant.

Essential tech tools like project management software and task-tracking platforms are also considered vital by employers to streamline complex network deployment and management functions. The report also observes that besides technical skills, aspirants also need to focus on associated soft skills, including analytical reasoning, adaptability, and interpersonal communication.
