A routine ride home from a drawing class turned tragic in Pune’s Kothrud area when a speeding car rammed into a bike, killing a 12-year-old girl on the spot and leaving her mother critically injured.
The accident took place on Monday night, and the deceased has been identified as Abir Pranav Panse (12), a resident of Rambaug Colony in Kothrud, while the injured is his mother Priyanka (44).
The driver of the vehicle is a 62-year-old man. He hit the duo’s two-wheeler after which they fell to the ground. They were admitted to a private hospital, however, Abir succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, speaking to FPJ, Sandeep Deshmane, Senior Police Inspector (Kothrud Police Station), said, "The 62-year-old suspect who was driving the car was detained on Thursday morning. As per the initial investigation, the car (MG Hector) driver hit the two-wheeler from the side, causing the duo to fall, leading to serious head injuries for the boy, who later died during treatment."
"We are analyzing the CCTV cameras installed nearby in the locality. However, according to the investigation from local residents, it doesn’t appear to be a hit-and-run case," he added.
He furtheer said, "The car driver has been detained, and the matter is under investigation. Whether the driver had consumed alcohol is part of the investigation. The complaint has been registered accordingly, and action will be taken."
This comes a day after a drunk-driving case was reported from the Kothrud area. Just as the horrific Porsche accident case completed a year in Pune, another case of hit-and-run was reported, this time from Kothrud.
A few days ago a lawyer was killed by a speeding Fortuner in the Khadakwasla area by an allegedly intoxicated driver.
