Two killed in dust storm in Hisar region

The region witnessed dust storm resulting in felling of trees and electricity poles at several places in Hisar, Bhiwani and Jind. The storm claimed two lives as a youth died at Kharak Punia village in Hisar and an aged woman died in Bhiwani town.

According to information, a 21-year-old youth, Rupesh, died at Kharak Punia village when a tree fell on his motorcycle during the storm. The impact was so severe that the tree trunk pierced through his body. He was rushed to a local health centre but was declared dead on arrival. In Bhiwani, an elderly woman lost her life after a metal grill collapsed on her and her grandson during the storm in the Kutcha Camp area. The storm wreaked havoc across the region bringing down hundreds of trees and electric poles. Jind reported 150 fallen trees and 90 broken poles, leading to a blackout in both urban and rural areas.

While some areas received light to moderate rainfall with hail, much of the state remained under intense heat. Sirsa recorded the highest temperature in the state at a blistering 47.0°C, with severe heatwave conditions. Heatwave also prevailed in Hisar, Narnaul and Rohtak.

Maximum temperatures ranged between 44.1°C and 45.0°C in parts of Hisar, Bhiwani, Fatehabad, Sirsa, and Mahendragarh and between 41.1°C and 44.0°C across most of central and southern Haryana. The rising heat has increased electricity. As repair efforts continue, the authorities are on high alert amid forecasts of continued unstable weather in the days ahead.
