24-year-old held for murdering Mauli Baidwan man

The police arrested a Bihar native, Mukesh Kumar, for the brutal May 11 murder of Mauli Baidwan man in Sector 78-79.

The half naked, partially decomposed body of Sureshpal, 36, was found under mysterious condition in a secluded place near Sector 78-79 on May 14 afternoon. There were injury marks on the body appearing to be inflicted by stones and sticks.

The accused Mukesh Kumar, 24, who works in a tyre shop in Sohana, was arrested from near a chowk in Sohana and sustained injuries while trying to flee, cops claimed.

Mohali SP (Investigation) Saurav Jindal said, “On May 11, the victim, who had reportedly consumed liquor, was sitting in a park at night when the suspect approached him with an intention to rob him of his mobile phone and cash. The suspect tried to snatch his phone and a scuffle ensued but the suspect hit him with stones and stick and dragged him to a secluded place where he allegedly took off the victim’s pant and undergarments to dispose off his body.

The accused already has two cases registered against him in the past at Sohan police station.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP, City-2) Harsimran Singh Bal said, as of now, only one person is involved in the case and further investigation was underway.

The victim, a native of Haryana was currently staying in Mauli Baidwan village for the past two years. His brother Nirmal Kumar had filed a missing person report, following which the probe was launched. He is survived by his wife and a son.
