Rs 10.86 crore to be spent on renovation of community centres in Kurukshetra
After remaining stuck for more than a year, the work related to renovation of community centres and construction of entry gates in the city are likely to take off soon. A budget of over Rs 21.86 crore is to be spent on the renovation of community centres and construction of two gates at the entry points of the city.
The community centres established in various residential sectors are in deplorable conditions and require immediate repairs. As per the information, the budget of Rs 10.86 crore will be spent on the renovation and upgrading of six community centres including sector 3, 5, 7, 8 and 13.
At present, there is one entry gate ‘Gita Dwar’ at the entrance of Thanesar city in Pipli. However, the Gita Dwar is losing its sheen as it is not being maintained properly.
An official said, “Kurukshetra is being promoted as a major tourist destination and to create an ambiance and attract visitors, it was decided to construct entry gates at major points. The entry gates will help the municipal council in the beautification of the city. The new gates will come up at the KDB road and Umri road, while the Gita Dwar will be repaired.”
District Municipal Commissioner Satinder Siwach said, “To ensure that the community centres are properly utilised and the residents get the required facilities, the council has decided to renovate the community centres. As part of the renovation project, six community centres are to be renovated, for which, tenders for four centres have been allotted and the remaining two will be allotted soon. The renovation work will be carried out as per the requirement of the particular community centre.”
“Administrative approval has been received for the construction of entry gates and a consultant has been hired. Directions have been issued to prepare the designs. The entry gates will help us in beautification of the city. The construction work will begin soon,” he added
Former Minister of State Subhash Sudha said, “A budget of Rs 10.86 crore was provided to the municipal council more than a year ago for the renovation of the community centres in the city. The project will help in providing more facilities to the residents and in organising events conveniently. Besides this, a plan was prepared to construct grand entry gates over two years ago and a budget of Rs 11 crore was sanctioned more than a year ago. The formalities are being completed and the work related to construction work is expected to take off soon.”
