12-year-old shuttler makes it to India Book of Records
Ekam Singh Aujla (12) of Nasrali village in Khanna district has made it to the India Book of Records 2025-26 by hitting a shuttlecock for 962 times in 19 minutes and 24 seconds.
Ekam, a Class VII student of Radha Vatika Senior Secondary School, Khanna, used his right hand to achieve the rare feat. The previous record was of hitting the shuttle 409 times in 11 minutes 39 seconds.
Ekam’s father Jasvir Singh Aujla said he had been receiving congratulatory messages since his son achieved the success.
He said, “Ekam used to practice for 2 to 3 hours every day. I encouraged him a lot and after months of hard work, Ekam tasted success,” said Aujla. He added that Ekam doesn’t waste time on cellphone or other electronic gadgets and also likes swimming and football.
Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond also honoured Ekam for his performance at an event held at Nasrali. Sond said children were future of the nation and parents should motivate them to take part in sporting activities.
Ekam said this was his first achievement and it would serve as stepping stone for him to achieve medals for the nation in future. “My parents are my real support. They have given me freedom to do whatever I want to do,” he said, adding that PV Sindhu and Shi Yuqi were his role models.
