Istri Jagriti Manch demands info about women arrested to stop Begampura protest
The Istri Jagriti Manch today demanded that the state government and the Sangrur administration make public the number of women arrested to prevent Begampura settlement protest and also sought the information as to which jail the women are being detained in.
Members of the Istri Jagriti Manch said that by arresting landless women laborers of the Istri Jagriti Manch, going to Bir Aswan in Sangrur under the leadership of Zameen Prapti Sangharsh Committee (Land Acquisition Struggle Committee), to hold a protest aimed to resettle Begampura, the state government has caused its its so-called pro-women mask to slip.
Leaders the CM popularly said to be in favour of workers, has laid bare the pretence, by arresting women going to claim their rights over 927 acres of Bir Aswan land in Sangrur. Leaders said the Sangrur administration arrested many women going to Bir Aswan land, from different places. Some people were released late at night. Many women were arrested by the Sangrur administration and sent to jail. They alleged it has also been reported that many women had also been detained in Bathinda jail, but the administration is not ready to tell where the rest of the women were imprisoned.
The manch demanded this must be shared by administrations so that the worried families can get information about the safety of their family members. They also warned that if any kind of harm is caused to any woman, the Bhagwant Mann government and the administration should be ready to face the consequences.
