Ferozepur: BSF personnel on Thursday held a suspected cross-border drug peddler with a country-made pistol from Gendu Kilcha village. BSF officials said the apprehended drug peddler, a resident of Habib Wala village, was later handed over to the Mamdot police. BSF officials said their troops recovered DJI Mavic-3 Classic drone last night from a dried-up drain near Hazara Singh Wala village, which was followed up by another seizure of drone of the same make from an area near a field adjacent to Kilche village along the border. 12 kg heroin seized, 3 held

Ferozepur: The Ferozepur police have busted a drug smuggling module with the arrest of three persons and seized 12.07 kg heroin and Rs 25.12 lakh drug and hawala money from them, said Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Thursday. Those arrested are Karan Kumar (22), alias Ghanni, Rohit Bhatti (24) and Aakashdeep (24), alias Aakash, all residents of Bukkan Khan Wala in Ferozepur. Karan and Akashdeep already face cases under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act. OC

Drug peddlers’ houses razed

Patiala: The Patiala police on Tuesday demolished the houses of eight drug peddlers who had encroached upon the government land at Rohti Channa village near Nabha. SSP Varun Sharma, who led the operation, said illegal structures were constructed on the land belonging to the Water Resource Department at Nabha. They ran illegal drug trade from those houses. These drug peddlers already have 75 FIRs registered against them. “Our fight against drugs will continue and those indulging in it will face strict action and their properties will be razed or confiscated,” the SSP said. CM felicitates 29 Dhuri cooperative societies

Sangrur: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday felicitated all 39 cooperative societies of the Dhuri Circle that have set a new benchmark by recovering more than 90 per cent of loans. While 29 cooperative societies have recovered more than 99 per cent of loans, the remaining 10 have recovered more than 90 per cent. Addressing the gathering at a function organised to commemorate ‘International Year of Cooperatives’ here, the CM said it was heartening to see that these societies had done exceptional work when most other cooperative societies had failed to recover their outstanding debt.
