Delhi: PAC reviews CAG reports on liquor sales, pollution

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Delhi Legislative Assembly on Thursday held a meeting under the chairmanship of MLA Ajay Mahawar to review key issues flagged in recent Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports. The meeting focused on matters of public concern, including air pollution, irregularities in liquor sales and healthcare.

Committee members present included Arvinder Singh Lovely, Satish Upadhyay, Shikha Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Rajkumar Chauhan, Atishi, Virendra Kadyan, and Kuldeep Kumar. Senior officials such as the Additional Deputy CAG, Health Secretary, Excise Commissioner, Transport Commissioner, Additional Chief Secretary (Environment), Finance Secretary, and Delhi Assembly Secretary were also in attendance.

The session began with an introduction of members and a discussion on the working relationship between the CAG and the PAC. The committee then delved into key concerns raised in audit reports, seeking detailed clarifications from relevant departments.

PAC chairperson Ajay Mahawar emphasised the committee’s role in promoting transparency and holding departments accountable. “Our duty goes beyond reviewing reports. It is about ensuring that issues directly impacting citizens such as air quality, liquor policy, and healthcare are addressed with seriousness,” he said.

Mahawar added that the committee is committed to presenting a factual and honest report before the Assembly, based on constructive dialogue and data-backed deliberations.

The PAC directed departments to submit comprehensive responses and outlined steps for further examination of irregularities flagged in the audit reports.
