Restoring confidence in UT Tourism
Sir,
The recent terror attack in Pahalgam is a grim reminder of the challenges facing Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism sector. As the region was beginning to regain momentum, this incident has understandably shaken public confidence. While Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s proactive engagement with stakeholders is commendable, concrete measures must follow. Strengthening security around tourist hubs, deploying trained tourist police, and setting up 24×7 helplines are urgent needs. Equally vital is reshaping Kashmir’s image through familiarisation tours and hosting national events to showcase normalcy. Economic support through relief packages, loan deferments, and travel incentives can revive grassroots livelihoods. Lastly, integrating culture, wellness, and eco-tourism into the mainstream can broaden the appeal. With the Amarnath Yatra nearing, this is an opportunity to demonstrate resilience and hospitality. Safety must be sacrosanct. Rebuilding trust in UT tourism isn’t just an economic task-it’s about restoring faith and redefining the narrative.
