23 GNDU graduates selected as Assistant Town Planners
The Government of Punjab had recently advertised 37 posts of Assistant Town Planners (ATPs) in the Department of Local Bodies and out of these 37 posts, 24 posts were filled through the Punjab Public Service Commission. Of the 24 selected candidates, 23 are graduates of the Planning Department of the Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar.
These newly-recruited ATPs would be appointed in the municipal corporations, municipal councils and the improvement trusts to plan, develop and maintain better human habitat and its surroundings.
Earlier this year, nine out of 10 ATPs (90 per cent) recruited in the Town and Country Planning Department were also from the Planning Department of the GNDU. Also, all the 34 post-graduate students of 2024-2025 batch got recruited in multinational and national level consultancy firms with salary packages ranging between Rs 4 and Rs 9 lakh.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Karamjit Singh congratulated the Planning Department faculty for training the students and providing them exposure, along with developing state-of-the-art soft skills. While congratulating the newly-appointed ATPs, the VC advised that they should work with dedication and honesty for the betterment of society. He said planning is an outshining profession in the fast-urbanising world and there would be a high demand of Urban, Regional, Infrastructure and Transport Planners in the times to come. He motivated the Planning Department for keeping the upscaling trends and suggested to look for new avenues and ventures to further excel in future.
More than 50-year-old, the Guru Ramdas School of Planning (GRDSP) of GNDU is a premier institute of North India to train the students in the Urban and Regional Planning discipline. Its graduates have and have been working at higher positions in the public as well as private sectors. Many of them have retired as Chief Town Planners or Senior Town Planners from the Town and Country Planning Departments, municipal corporations and improvement trusts across India.
