‘Fabbat’ exhibition begins at GNDU
The Department of Lifelong Learning at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) kick-started a three-day exhibition titled “Fabbat-2025” today. The exhibition was inaugurated by GNDU’s Vice-Chancellor Dr Karamjeet Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor emphasised the importance of encouraging students to embrace entrepreneurship by marketing their creations. He also highlighted the need to raise awareness about the traditional arts and crafts taught in local villages and inspire more students to enrol in the department’s courses. He appreciated the creative articles displayed by the students and commended their hard work.
The Vice-Chancellor, while interacting with the students, encouraged them to explore innovative methods for selling their products and enhance their earning potential while studying.
Dr Satwinderjeet Kaur, Director of the Department of Lifelong Learning, apprised the guests of the efforts of the department for uplifting the skills of the students. She said the department was taking up great initiatives to organise short-term training programmes as well as certificate/diploma courses throughout the year to benefit maximum students.
She said the purpose of the exhibition was to display and popularise the skills of the students which they learn during their course of study. They learn different types of surface ornamentation techniques such as embroidery, Phulkari and Chikankari, tie-and-dye, Batik, Stencil Printing, Block Printing, Weaving, Crocheting. By using these methods, the students create articles like bedsheets, cushion covers, coasters, trays, napkin holders, table mats with runners, etc.
