Amritsar: Three nabbed with 3 kg heroin, 2 Glock pistols

The Amritsar rural police have busted a cross-border drug cartel with the arrest of three persons. The police also recovered 3 kg of heroin and two 9 mm Glock pistols from their possession.

Those arrested were identified as Daljit Singh, alias Bhola, of Dhariwal Udhar village in Lopokr, Pawanpreet Singh, alias Monu, and Karanjit Singh, alias Karan, both residents of Dhanoe Kalan village falling under the Gharinda police station here.

A case under the NDPS Act and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against them and a probe was on to ascertain their backward and forward linkages.

The police said a police patrol party was present at Atalgarh village when it got a tip-off that Daljit Singh, Pawanpreet and Karanjit Singh were involved in the cross-border drug and weapon smuggling. The informer further disclosed that they were in touch with Pakistan-based anti-national elements who were pushing in drugs and weapons via drones. He said they had recently received a huge consignment of drugs and weapons from Pakistan.

The suspects were standing on the road leading from Mode border village to Mullekot and Dhariwal Udhar village. Police teams were dispatched and the accused were arrested from the spot.

During a search, the police seized two Glock pistols from Pawanpreet and Karanjit while 3 kg contraband was recovered from the dickey of the scooter of Daljit Singh Bhola. — TNS
