Janhvi Kapoor's Vintage Cannes Look Brings Back The ’80s Yves Saint Laurent Couture With Modern Twist
Bollywood's Gen-Z fame Janhvi Kapoor is making the 78th Cannes Film Festival 2025 her own runway and her latest look is perhaps the most classic one yet. In a show-stopping tribute to Yves Saint Laurent's poetic golden era, the actor turned heads at the prestigious amfAR Gala in a dramatic all-black ensemble that oozed retro glamour and timeless sophistication.
Curated by cousin and stylist Rhea Kapoor, Janhvi's ensemble was more than just fashion; it was a carefully crafted homage to the legendary designer’s 1987–1991 era when opulence met poetry on the runway.
Tribute to YSL's iconic couture years
Rhea revealed that the look paid homage to her favourite Yves Saint Laurent years. It featured two rare vintage pieces from YSL Rive Gauche, including a sculptural saucer hat from 1987 and a velvet jacket from 1989. The structured silhouette and oversized statement hat instantly evoked the high drama and elegance of late ’80s fashion.

Balancing the bold top half was a custom silk chiffon skirt, crafted by Indian designer Anamika Khanna. It featured a lightweight fabric, offsetting the rigidity of the jacket and offering a flowy, romantic finish that captured the poetic core of Saint Laurent's design.

To match the timeless drama of her look, Janhvi turned to Chopard for jewellery, adorning herself in statement diamond pieces. Her makeup was soft yet glamorous with glowing skin, pink-flushed cheeks, shimmering nude eyelids, kohl-rimmed eyes, and her signature nude lips.
She rounded off with a sleek, high bun that sealed the vintage-meets-modern mood of the look.
