‘Operation Green Hunt Virodhi Zamhoori Front’ holds protest march in Sangrur

The ‘Operation Green Hunt Virodhi Zamhoori Front’ organised a state-level convention and held a protest march in Sangrur on Thursday against the alleged ‘killings’ of Adivasis and Maoist revolutionaries in Bastar (Chhattisgarh) and other Adivasi areas.

The convention was presided over by a well-known human rights activist Dr Navsharan, along with Dr Parminder Singh, Professor AK Maleri, Buta Singh Mehmudpur and Yashpal.

Addressing the convention, Dr Navsharan said the ‘killings’ were being carried out by the state to facilitate corporate control over mineral-rich Adivasi lands. She emphasised that the Adivasis have been fighting to protect their minerals, forests and land for the past several decades.

Dr Navsharan further said that the BJP, under what she described as a fascist policy, has fixed a target to make the country Naxal-free by March 31, 2026, to clear the way for corporate-led development projects. She asserted that such a development model is not acceptable to Adivasis and other people of the country.

Dr Parminder Singh said that the Punjab Government had been ignoring the genuine demands of various agitating sections, including farmers and labourers. He accused the government of adopting methods to crush these agitations and claimed that Punjab is being turned into a “police state” to create terror among protestors. He urged the people to oppose these government actions.

Some resolutions were passed by the convention, including demands to stop fake encounters and drone attacks in Adivasi areas, withdraw of special security forces, dismantle security camps, scrap the pro-corporate economic model, and release political prisoners and ordinary detainees.

The event also featured revolutionary songs performed by Jugraj Dhaula, Iqbal Kaur Udasi, Jagseer Jeeda, Ajmer Aklia and Kasturi Lal.
