Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, KCCI delegation, others call on LG

Srinagar, May 23: Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, Chairperson, J&K Waqf Board called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, today.
Dr Andrabi expressed her gratitude to Lieutenant Governor for the announcement of Government job to the closest kin of Pakistan shelling victims. She also discussed several measures undertaken by the Board for the development of Sufi shrines in J&K.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) met LG, seeking relief measures and efforts to promote tourism.
“President Javid Ahmad Tenga conveyed that the business community had made significant capital investments in anticipation of sustained economic growth. The Pahalgam tragedy has not only shaken public confidence but has also disrupted the revenue streams of thousands of enterprises, many of which are now struggling to meet existing loan obligations,” KCCI said.
The situation, the trade body said, is compounded by reduced cash flows, near-zero tourist footfall, and a general downturn in business activity.
“The plight of thousands of transporters who have borrowed huge bank loans was also discussed. The KCCI also impressed upon the LG the need for tourism promotion as the earliest.”
The KCCI delegation included senior vice president Ashiq Hussain Shangloo, junior vice president Fayaz Ahmad Punjabi, secretary general Faiz Ahmad Bakshi, treasurer Zubair Mahajan, and Executive Committee member Mohammad Ibrahim Siah.
The delegation sought the LG’s intervention for a relief package from the Central Government on the analogy of the 2014 floods and COVID-19, with a focus on Government and banking interventions.
The KCCI also submitted a memorandum to the LG seeking relief measures including an Interest Subvention Scheme, one-time loan moratorium with account classification protection, introduction of a Guaranteed Emergency Credit Line (GECL) soft loan facility for non-loanee enterprises, waiver of taxes, waiver of transport-related taxes, power amnesty for commercial consumers, release of pending contractor payments, tourism promotion, extension in J&K Bank’s OTS repayment, and introduction of a new OTS scheme as per MSME guidelines.
Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir called on Lieutenant Governor.
The Vice Chancellor briefed the Lieutenant Governor about the breakthrough Research viz development of the first Gene Edited sheep in the country.
SKUAST Kashmir is endeavouring in the two most important technologies which are revolutionising the world: Artificial Intelligence and the Gene editing technologies and has earned 77th Patent.
The Vice Chancellor also briefed the Lieutenant Governor about the new programs and initiatives of the University. He further informed that the academic programme which was switched to hybrid mode recently would be normalised from 1st June, 2025.
Wajahat Farooq Bhat, Chairman, Save Youth Save Future Foundation, called on Lieutenant Governor. He was accompanied by Anika Nazir, Women’s Wing Head, and Mudasir Ahmed Dar, South Kashmir Zonal President of the foundation.
Bhat apprised the Lieutenant Governor on various issues related to relief and rehabilitation of the families affected due to unprovoked shelling by Pakistan.
