Eatery owner, aide held for supplying liquor to students in Kharar

An Excise Department team in a joint operation with Kharar Police arrested the owner of a local eatery and his aide for allegedly selling and supplying liquor to local residents, including students living in PG accommodations.

The arrested accused have been identified as Rakesh Kumar, the owner of Micky Kitchen and his accomplice Krishan — both residents of Kharar.

According to Excise Department officials, a raid was conducted on the intervening night of May 22 and 23 at Micky Kitchen, located on Landran Road in Kharar.

During the raid, 67 bottles of IMFL/IFL, 112 bottles, 40 cans, and 35 nips of beer of various brands labelled with “For Sale in UT Chandigarh Only” tags were recovered.

It was revealed that the owner of the chicken shop had been supplying liquor to customers in nearby residential areas and to students residing in PG accommodations, particularly after midnight.

He allegedly procured the liquor from Chandigarh using his four-wheeler and sold it in the area.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Karan Singh Sandhu said a case has been registered under Section 61 of the Punjab Excise Act, 1914 and section 112 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against both the accused.
