Panchkula woman duped of Rs 4.5 lakh in immigration fraud; one arrested

The police have arrested a native of Gurdaspur for allegedly duping a city resident in a Rs 4.5 lakh immigration fraud.

The team led by Sub-Inspector Tajinder Pal Singh, in-charge of the Anti-Immigration Fraud Unit, arrested the accused Shiv Kumar, who was brought on production warrant and presented in Panchkula court. He has been remanded to a four-day police custody.

The case had been registered based following a complaint by Rita Rani, the wife of Rohit Kumar, a resident of Shanti Nagar in Kalka, Panchkula.

According to the complainant, in March 2021, she applied for a Canadian visa through the accused’s Mohali-based firm, called The Aussie Education.

Shiv Kumar along with individuals, Neha Gupta and Gurinder, took approximately Rs 4.5 lakh from the complainant over the course of multiple bank transfers but neither arranged for her visa nor refunded the money.

Investigations have revealed that Shiv Kumar is already facing eight similar fraud cases in Punjab. The police teams are now interrogating the arrested accused to recover the defrauded money and to identify and apprehend his accomplices and also uncover the extent of their overall network.
