Tracing fingerprints: Panchkula Police’s new trump card for catching criminals
With two fingerprint lifters being appointed to each police station in the district, the authorities have upped the ante against miscreants. The specially trained officers are quick to reach any crime scene and collect evidence in the form of traces of fingerprints.
As part of the new initiative, launched on the directions of Commissioner of Police Sibash Kabiraj, a key meeting was held today at the Sector 1 office.
Held under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Himadri Kaushik, the meeting saw experts from the State Crime Records Bureau, the in-charge of the District Forensic Science Laboratory, and fingerprint lifters from all police stations discuss strategies.
During the meeting, the DCP discussed in detail the importance of fingerprint technology in criminal investigations. She said using modern technology and scientific methods has become essential to quickly and accurately identify criminals involved in serious crimes such as theft, burglary and murder.
Kaushik directed that all fingerprint lifters to receive technical training so they can work skillfully at the crime scene.
The DCP further explained how every person’s fingerprint is unique, which makes it a powerful tool in identifying criminals. She also shared a recent success story where Crime Branch 19 arrested an accused named Rajkumar alias Kalachidi. In this case, constables Kamalkant and Monu Ram collected important fingerprint evidence that played a key role in the ensuring the accused’s arrest.
The theft had taken place in a house located in Sector-5, where Kamalkant collected the fingerprints, which led to the arrest. The police team went on to recover jewelry worth Rs 12 lakh and mobile phones from the accused. Rajkumar was involved in five theft cases registered at different police stations in Panchkula.
