Juvenile held for gang rape

The Mehatpur police have arrested a juvenile on the charge of gang-raping a minor. Investigating officer (IO) Niranjann Singh said the accused was identified as Gurwindar Singh, a resident of Vehran village. The IO said a case under Section 70(2) (gang rape on woman under the age of eighteen) of the BNS and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered against the accused. He said the main accused identified as Bobbi Singh, a resident of Umrewal village, was arrested earlier.

Three drug peddlers arrested

The Shahkot police have arrested a drug peddler on the charge of selling heroin. Investigating Officer (IO) Sukhwindar Pal Singh said 55.34 grams of heroin was recovered from the possession of the accused, identified as Naresh Kumar Gill, a resident of Saidpur Jhirri village. The IO said a case under Sections 21-B/61/85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the accused and his motorcycle was impounded. The Bilga police arrested two drug peddlers, Amrit Pal Singh and Ratanjit Singh, residents of Poadharra village, and recovered 120 intoxicating tablets, said IO Avtar Lal.

Man held for consuming drug

The Mehatpur police have arrested a drug addict on the charge of consuming heroin. Investigating officer (IO) Jaspal Singh said the accused was identified as Rannjit Singh, a resident of Sangowal village. The IO said a lighter, a silver paper and a plastic pipe used for consuming drug was recovered from his possession. A case under Sections 27/61/85 of the NDPS Act was registered against accused, the IO added.

27-year-old youth found dead

Phagwara: A 27-year-old youth was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Friday at a village under the Bilga police station. Station House Officer (SHO) Palwindar Singh said the deceased was identified as Lovdeep Singh, a resident of Ladharr Kalan village. The SHO said village residents informed the police about a body. He said the police took the body into possession and sent it to the Phillaur Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Further investigation was on, he said.
