MBBS scam: Police to probe 12 more employees, 20 students under scanner

The police are preparing to take further significant action in the MBBS exam scam that rocked Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak (UHSR), even as public pressure mounts for swift and strict punishment of those involved.

So far, 41 individuals — including 24 MBBS students from a private medical college and 17 employees of UHSR — have been booked in the case, which came to light in February. However, only three employees have been arrested so far, and no concrete action has yet been taken against the students, drawing criticism over the slow pace of the investigation.

According to sources, the police are now moving to bring 12 more employees — already named in the FIR — into the probe, along with four additional individuals whose names have emerged during ongoing investigations. Permission to question these individuals has been secured from the university. Twenty MBBS students named in the FIR also remain under scrutiny, and further arrests are likely in the coming days.

The United Doctors Front, an outfit of medical professionals, has appealed to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for decisive action. “This scam has not only tarnished the reputation of medical education but has also jeopardised the future of thousands of honest and hardworking students,” said Dr Amit Vyas, president of the organisation.

In his letter to the Chief Minister, Dr Vyas called for an independent, high-level investigation, immediate expulsion of the accused students, and strong administrative and legal action against the university employees involved. He also emphasised the need for a complete overhaul of the university’s examination system to make it more transparent, secure and resistant to fraud.

Echoing these demands, Deepak Rathee, national spokesperson of the Akhil Bhartiya Adarsh Jat Mahasabha, urged authorities to act without delay. “This is the biggest scam in Haryana so far. There is a strong possibility that high-level officials may be involved. The police should investigate the case from this angle as well,” Rathee said.

Meanwhile, the district police have recently submitted a 978-page chargesheet in the case, indicating the depth of the alleged malpractice and the scale of the conspiracy.
